SLATER AND CHARLIE GO CAMPING (WINDOWS VERSION)
Slater and Charlie must be installed on a hard drive with
at least 8MB of free space. To do this, place the CD in the
CD-ROM drive. In Windows, open the "File" menu and select "Run".
Type the letter of your CD-ROM drive followed by :\SETUP and press
<Enter>. Thus, if your CD-ROM drive is D:, insert the CD into
drive open the "File" menu, choose "Run" and type D:\SETUP <Enter> .
This product should be played in the Windows "Enhanced"
Mode. Slater and Charlie is not supported in the Windows
"Standard" Mode. To ensure that you start Windows in "Enhanced"
Mode, type WIN /3 <Enter> when starting Windows.
Minimum system requirements:
1) 386 based CPU running Windows 3.xx or better.
2) VGA graphics card.
3) 2 Meg of RAM
Note: Performance will not be optimal on a minimum system.
Symptoms of overtaxed hardware include slow animation
and/or breakups in audio.
We have done all in our power to make "Slater and Charlie Go Camping"
a well behaved Windows application, but for optimum performance we
suggest you install and run this product from the DOS prompt.
System configuration for optimal performance:
1) 386/486 CPU running at 25MHz or better.
2) Over 600K (614,400 bytes) of DOS memory.
3) 3 Meg or more extended or expanded memory.
4) 256 color VGA/MCGA video.
5) A music card
6) A DAC for sampled audio.
In order to hear game sounds through your music card it
must be configured for Windows. If this has not already
been done you may need to add drivers and/or change the
Midi map. Your Windows manual, or the sound card's documentation,
may help you.
The Windows install will ask you if you want to install
for BASE or EXTENDED level sound.
BASE level sound runs on channels 13 through 16 and is used
for sound cards like SoundBlaster, ProAudio, Adlib, or
any FM Yamaha 3812 type card.
EXTENDED level sound runs on channels 1 through 10 and is
used for cards like the LAPC-I, MT-32, SCC-1, Sound
Canvas, Turtle Beach MultiSound, or any General MIDI
device.
ProAudio Note: If you are using a ProAudio sound card and find
audio portions of this product drop out or are cut short, we
suggest you contact Microsoft's Technical Support Department
and obtain their help in overcoming the problem. Installing and
playing "Slater and Charlie Go Camping" from the DOS prompt
will eliminate this problem.
DAC Note: If you do not have a DAC you may (if you wish)
delete the file "resource.aud". This file contains all
of the speech for the game and is quite large (over 3 Meg).
By deleting this file, you will free up over 3 Meg of your
valuable hard drive space. If, after deleting this file,
you acquire a DAC and wish to hear the audio, you will need
to reinstall "Slater and Charlie".
Final note: Screen savers may interfere with an install.
You may wish to turn them off if it interferes with your
install.
